From the Headmaster

Welcome to Bromsgrove School. Five hundred year old Bromsgrove is one of Britain's finest boarding and day schools. In spectacular facilities, spread over one hundred acres, we offer staggering breadth and first division academic performance to over two thousand children, aged between 2 and 18, spanning over 70 nationalities.

Michael E Punt, Headmaster, Bromsgrove School.

HM Weekly Routh Address

What is Bromsgrove School’s mission?

Bromsgrove School aims to nurture happy, creative and moral citizens who lead motivated, fulfilled lives and enrich the lives of others.
We achieve this through an enlightened, disciplined and broad education that responds to a changing global world while remaining firmly rooted in strong core values.

What are Bromsgrove School’s core values?

At Bromsgrove, kindness sits at the heart of everything we do. Our core values are:
• Humility and Confidence
• Compassion and Ambition
• Respect and Curiosity
• Tolerance and Vision

These values guide our pupils to understand their place in the world and to live with consideration, empathy and responsibility towards others. Together, they define the Bromsgrove family and shape the way our pupils learn, live and lead.

How would you describe Bromsgrove School?

Bromsgrove School is a 500 year old co educational school, located in the heart of the UK — just 20 minutes south of Birmingham and around two hours from London Heathrow.
Set within a beautiful, secure 100 acre campus, the School welcomes boys and girls aged 2 to 18, offering both day and boarding education.
As a registered charity, all school fees are reinvested directly back into the School to benefit pupils and facilities.

Can you tell me more about boarding?

Boarding is a vibrant and integral part of life at Bromsgrove, with around 600 boarders aged 7 to 18, representing 75 nationalities, including 178 British Forces boarders.

• Excellent boarding accommodation with a five year rolling refurbishment programme
• Single sex boarding houses for boys and girls
• One co educational Sixth Form boarding house
• All Senior School boarding is en suite
• A dedicated Prep School boarding house for ages 7–13

We do not operate exeat weekends, meaning boarding houses remain full and lively throughout the week. A busy weekend activities and trips programme is offered, and the School remains open during holidays for those who wish to stay or return early (Guardian Angels available at £55 per night).

Outstanding pastoral care is provided, with:

• Residential staff in every house
• A personal tutor for each pupil
• An on site boarders’ clinic with residential nurses and a doctor

All meals are freshly prepared on site by our own chefs, with food served in a bright, modern dining room.

What does the academic curriculum look like?

Bromsgrove offers flexible academic pathways to suit different learners:

• Year 9: GCSE (3 year course)
• Year 10: GCSE (2 year course)
• Year 11: GCSE (1 year course)
• Years 12–13: A Levels, BTEC and International Baccalaureate (IB)

Our academic results are exceptional. Bromsgrove’s IB results place us 3rd in the world for co educational boarding schools.

What Sixth Form course should my child choose?

All the pathways are excellent, and the right choice depends on the individual pupil.

• A Levels: Pupils typically study three subjects (occasionally four) and complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
• IB Diploma: Pupils study six subjects — three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level — alongside the IB Core: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS), and an Extended Essay (EE).
• BTEC qualifications in Sport and Business are also offered and these can be combined with A levels.

Our Sixth Form team provides expert guidance to help families choose the best route.

What happens after Sixth Form?

Our experienced University and Futures team supports pupils with:

• University and career choices
• Apprenticeships
• Personal statements
• Interview preparation
• Bespoke advice for entry to top UK, US and European universities

In 2025

• 90% of pupils secured their first choice university,
• 10 pupils gained entry to Oxford and Cambridge
• 13 went on to study medicine, dentistry or vetinary sciences
• A quarter went to QS World Top 50 universities.

Reflecting the strength of our guidance and support.

What makes Bromsgrove Prep School special?

Bromsgrove Prep School educates over 500 boys and girls aged 8–13 (Years 3–8), including more than 100 boarders.

We believe the right education fosters a lifelong love of learning and prepares children to become responsible, caring adults with strong manners, self discipline and integrity.

Teaching combines:

• Modern, high quality educational methods
• Traditional values
• Specialist subject teaching introduced gradually to support progression

This approach allows every child to flourish and discover their individual strengths.

What about sport, arts and activities?

Bromsgrove is ranked 5th in the UK for sport, across 26 sports — a rare achievement for a school that is also academically outstanding.

Highlights include:

• Tennis Academy, Swim Academy and Racing Car Engineering
• 293 activity options built into the school day
• Music, drama, dance, debating, Model United Nations, Duke of Edinburgh, Young Enterprise and more

Saturday activities are included in the fees and open to day pupils and boarders, with options ranging from academic extension societies to golf and horse riding.
Our performing arts facilities are exceptional, with regular opportunities for pupils to perform individually and in groups.

How do I apply?

Pupils may join at any year group except Year 13.

• Contact the Admissions Team for guidance, or
• Complete the registration form on our website: https://www.bromsgrove-school.co.uk/apply-now

For entry, we require:

• A current school report
• CAT4 testing
• Oxford Online English test
• An interview (in person or online)

Day pupils sit our Entrance Exams.
Prep pupils transfer automatically to the Senior School, provided academic and behavioural expectations are met.
We also offer taster days, short term boarding stays, and individual visits.

Bromsgrove sounds amazing — are there reasons it might not be right for me?

Bromsgrove is a school for pupils who are willing to work hard and challenge themselves. If you’re looking for an easy option, there may be other schools better suited.

For boarders:
• We are not in London (though Birmingham is just 20 minutes away)
• Our boarding houses are large and lively — if you want a very small boarding school, Bromsgrove may not be the right fit

We don’t have:
• An on site golf course (we use a local course)
• On site stables (horse riding is offered, but not daily)

Bromsgrove is a busy, exciting and ambitious school, and that’s exactly what many families love about it.

Senior (Pupils 13 - 18)

Bromsgrove’s superb academic record is, to some extent, misleading. Bromsgrove pupils are individuals and we will never squeeze them into a particular academic mould or hothouse them at the expense of a broad education. If that’s the case, you might reasonably ask, where do these spectacular results come from? The ethos.
