Commemoration Day Information

Commemoration Day is the Senior School's traditional end of year celebration. It is a very special day especially for our Upper Sixth Leavers.

Following a very small ceremony in Cookes Room celebrating our founder Sir Thomas Cookes, students in the Fifth and Sixth Form, teachers and parents of Upper Sixth Leavers  proceed to St John's Church for the Leavers' Service. Speeches take place in one of the large marquees on Gordon Green and parents and friends of Bromsgrove are welcome to attend. During the Speech Day Ceremony, the President, Vice Presidents and Governors of Bromsgrove School are in attendance to witness the awarding of the end of year prizes including five special prizes.

Lunch is served in the Parents' Association Marquee, or many parents and friends picnic on Lower Charford either in pre-booked gazebos or with a picnic on the grass. Many of the Houses have their own PA gazebos, please contact your child's Houseparent for details. There is a marquee for Old Bromsgrovians and an Archive display in the Old Chapel. Weather allowing, there is usually a cricket match on Lower Charford, Jazz Band on Gordon Green and several exhibitions around the School - details are in the Commemoration Day Programme.

At about 4.30pm the Chapel Bell begins to toll, calling the School to Final Call Over. The pupils line up in Houses with their Houseparents, Housemothers and Tutors and then each pupil in turn shakes hands with the Heads of School and the Headmaster. The final ceremony is the lowering of the School flag by the Heads of School who hand it to the Headmaster for for safekeeping until the start of the next academic year.

The day is formal and parents dress as they would for a formal summer event.

If you have any specific questions about the day, please email commemoration@bromsgrove-school.co.uk or contact your child's House for more details.
