House Music 2024

This year’s House Music competitions took place on Thursday, 8th and Friday, 9th February 2024. There was an outstanding array of talent from all involved and wonderful support from friends, colleagues and family too over both ensemble and solo competitions.

On Thursday evening, we were delighted to welcome to the stage no fewer than 100 musicians in the ensemble competition. Each House ensemble gave their all and impressed the adjudicator, our very own Headmaster, Mr Punt, in their variety of arrangements and communicative qualities.

Highly commended went to Thomas Cookes and Ottilie Hild; with Lupton as runners up, and Oakley as the winning ensemble with their rendition of Rewrite the Stars.



On Friday evening, we returned to Routh once again to hear ten soloists compete in two categories: Intermediate and Advanced adjudicated by Mr Dominic Franks, Director of Music from Dean Close School. Each finalist had progressed from the first auditions two weeks ago, at which sixty musicians auditioned. It really was an evening of superb music-making of the highest calibre.

For the Intermediate category, the highly commended certificate went to trumpeter Thomas P (School House); singer Bertie C (Elmshurst) as runner up and the winning trophy went to pianist Jarry X (Wendron-Gordon) for his joyful performance of Kuhlau's Sonatina in C.

For the advanced category, highly commended went to Gabriel B (Lupton); runner up violinist Huxley N (Wendron-Gordon) and the winner’s trophy went to saxophonist Ed T (Walters) for his jazzy and stylish performance of the Phil Woods Sonata.
