Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal

Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal

It has been heartening to see the School community pulling together and showing great compassion for the innocent victims of the current conflict in Ukraine. The School has been inundated with requests from pupils and staff who want to make a difference and take positive action to support the humanitarian crisis.

Based on suggestions from pupils, some of whom have direct links to the affected areas, we will be supporting several appeals:

Essential items for Ukrainian refugees
Bromsgrove Senior School is collecting essential items that will be delivered to refugees on the Polish border by Oakland International, a local distribution business run by an Old Bromsgrovian. While it is an evolving situation and the needs are ever-changing, some items are in urgent need. The charities on the ground are struggling to cope with the volume of clothing that have been sent over already and have been explicit in their request to limit donations to the list below:
• First Aid Kits
• Feminine care products
• Medical supplies
• Hygiene products / toiletries
• Nappies, wipes & bags
• Baby food and formula
• Pet food
• Sleeping bags and yoga mats
• Camping/exercise mats
• Thermal blankets
• Long shelf-life ambient food
• Tins – ideally with rings on to open

Donations of the above items should be delivered to the School’s Armoury as soon as possible. Trucks are leaving daily, so the sooner items are received, the sooner they will reach the refugees who need urgent support. Items can be dropped off throughout the day (before 4.00pm).

Funds for Ohmatdyt Children’s hospital
Ohmatdyt is the largest hospital in Ukraine and provides highly specialised care to thousands of children in Kyiv. With trauma and cancer care previously being the main focus of the hospital, it is now dedicated to treatment of children injured as a result of the war. With the district where the hospital is located being under constant threat, all patients have been forced to move into the basement, and the doctors have extremely limited funds and lack access to basic medical equipment.

The funds raised will be used directly for targeted assistance to children in hospitals. Therefore, all the money collected will be used for equipping basements with sterile medical equipment for surgeries that will have to be conducted under critical and urgent circumstances.

To make a donations, pupils can bring in cash to be collected in Houses and there will be a stand in the Café after School most days for the next few weeks, which will take cash and contactless donations.
