U13A Hockey Runners-up

Well done to the U13A boys' hockey team who finished as runners up at the Dean Close tournament yesterday. 

In their first match versus Dean Close, Bromsgrove dominated the first five minutes, forced a short corner but were unable to score and Dean Close scored a fortuitous goal off a short corner which lopped over our goalkeeper to give them the only goal of the match. 

In the second match versus Warwick, the team were under huge amounts of pressure for large parts of the game but ended up getting a break-away goal through William B to win 1-0. This gave the boys huge amounts of confidence as they then took on Millfield School and played some superb hockey. They deservedly scored the only goal of the game through Louis U right at the end.

Their fourth match saw them play Queen’s College, Taunton in a game where Bromsgrove dominated territory and possession but just could not get a break through goal. The game ended goalless.

In the fifth and final match, Bromsgrove were up against last years’ National IAPS runners-up in Clifton College, Bristol and did just about enough to win 1-0 through a well worked team goal converted by William B.

The boys can be very pleased with their efforts and came within one victory of retaining the trophy. Captain Jack W really stood out as our most skillful player, and as an added bonus Finley S was awarded the most outstanding goalkeeper of the tournament, and becomes the first Bromsgrove pupil to win an award at this tournament. 

It was a very enjoyable and rewarding afternoon of hockey which sets the team up for the Foremarke tournament on Saturday and the first round of the National ISHC Cup on Monday at home versus Ratcliffe College.
