Marmite Society 2016

Marmite Society 2016

Posted: 11/02/2016

Following on from the success of the Back To The Future pop-up event in October, and the Ant Man screening before Christmas, Gifted and Talented students in the Marmite Society will be enjoying two evenings of vintage Science Fiction satire this term.

Sixth Form seminars have focused on the theme of ‘Nature and Culture – From Romantics to Robots’, while the IVth and Vth Form course has been ‘TV Can Change The World’. Pizza, cake and some well-deserved time off will accompany the original Planet of the Apes (1968 – pre-CGI!), and Galaxy Quest (1996). The latter features a particularly legendary performance from the late Alan Rickman – a true Marmite hero.

The year has seen expert and thought-provoking seminars presented by students on subjects ranging from the over-representation of romantic love to a proof that 1=2=3, and popularity in social media to the impossibility of randomness.

Next term our second annual Mini Comic Con will occur on June 19th. This a full study day themed around Star Wars, with guest speakers including Dr Thompson, the noted Lucasian physicist, and Miss Alice Ruben, a Bristol University video matrixing expert. The term will conclude with the Awards Tea Party and Oxbridge Trip.
