Informal Concert
Posted: 10/02/2016
The Informal Concert series continued on Tuesday, 9th February with another lovely evening of music given by pianists William Draper-Barr in a crisp performance of the first movement of Mozart’s ‘Sonata in G’; Amy Ying’s performance of ‘Shui Cao Wu’ (The Dance of the Watergrass) depicted beautiful imagery and Vinzenz Freigassner was clearly at home in the highly rhythmic ‘Prelude No.1’ by Gershwin.
Violinist Amy Nolan charmed us with the lyrical folk melody ‘Ashokan Farewell’; saxophonists Ben Hollingworth and Xaver Freigassner impressed in Rodgers’ ‘Blue Room’ and Brookmeyer’s ‘Jive Hoot’ respectively. Jude Wynter (horn) tackled the fiendish York Bowen ‘Sonata’ with aplomb, and Alex Evans gave a spirited performance of Telemann’s unaccompanied ‘Flute Fantasy No.3’.
Emily Smith sang Charlie Simpsons’ ‘Farmer and his Gun’, accompanying herself on the guitar with great flair, and we were treated to two songs from Musicals: Heidi and Brittany Collie performed ‘On my own’ from Les Miserables, and to end the concert, Olivia Wormald gave her all in a performance of ‘I still believe’ from Miss Saigon.
Congratulations to everyone who performed, and to their accompanists.
