1st XI Training Camp

Over half-term, nineteen players and two staff from the 1st XI football squad enjoyed a great weekend at St George's Park, home of England football development.
The trip began with a campus tour including a look at the Wembley replica pitch, behind the scenes at all the state of the art facilities, plus an insight into which rooms Roy Hodgson, and leading England players, used when preparing for international matches.
Bromsgrove players impressed the specialist Perform conditioning staff, with high scores in both sprint and jump tests; indeed some rivalling the levels of Premiership footballers. A big test of endurance and courage was the time spent in the hydrotherapy rehabilitation centre, especially the cold water recovery pool. All the players, as well as Mr Matthews and Mr Brighton, survived the cold versus hot water rehab pools. As a reward they were allowed to try out the underwater treadmill to assess and improve their running techniques.
Highlights were training on the full size indoor and outdoor 3G artificial surfaces, which enabled players to work on different aspects of their game. Equally the indoor Futsal session, run by an FA coach, was enlightening in how to develop patterns of play.
The players were a real credit to Bromsgrove School and certainly impressed the FA coaches with their energy, commitment and talent.
