End of Lent Term - March 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians

Another brilliant term has gone so quickly. The girls must be exhausted! Not only have they all performed outstandingly in lessons they have also contributed to both School and House life in a variety of extra-curricular pursuits. Their enthusiasm and wealth of talent is
fantastic to see, they all keep up with all their various commitments so well.

Drama, sport, debate and music have all been at the forefront this term. As well as the many mock examinations.

I very much enjoyed the Junior House Drama performance of ‘Annie’. It was lively, well put together and, I was told by a number of teachers that it deserved more recognition. I would like to thank all those who performed (Rumer Evans, Ella Kenyon, Immy Marsh, Darcy McCormack and Evie Hastings). They gave up time for this event when they had so many other commitments.

Senior House Drama was just as spectacular, if not more so, as many of the actors were in the middle of there A’ levels or GCSEs. Even more astounding and worthy of praise is that Paris Siviter wrote the play that was staged (‘Our Friend Jack’). The production was very well put together and won the Adjudicator’s Special Award. In fact, the adjudicator, who was Mr James Hall, writer of ‘Death in Paradise’ said that he might use one of Paris’ ideas in his next series! Charlotte James, Jessica Whitlock, Anya Sanikop and Paris Siviter were all recognised for their contribution to Drama within the School. I have to just mention Charlotte James as she has been at every rehearsal for the technical support of the Drama department and has been outstanding. Mr James Hall was staggered by the seamless changes in performances and the sound effects, which were down to Charlotte’s skill and endeavour.

I was so pleased that TC were recognised in the House Music ensemble. You could tell everyone was enjoying themselves. The girls sang ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. Charissa Brobbey-Sarpong, Isla, Charlotte James, Ella Kenyon, Sophia Meadows, Emily Miskin, Izzy Oakley, Ruby Raine, Paris Siviter and Jessica Whitlock were brilliant. In fact, they won the Special Adjudicator’s award for their efforts. Sophia Meadows and Liya Krakmalnikova also reached the final of the individual music competition; Sophia in the Advanced class and Liya in Intermediate. Both girls had mastered their craft well and were very competitive.

House Debate was amazing! It was well researched and written, with excellent speeches from Olivia Spittle, Martha Cross and Charlotte James. These three not only won the debate against Wendron-Gordon but also the whole competition. Dr Jewkes commented on the different types of points made and how specific their arguments were. This showed excellent research and a good understanding of the topic – ‘This house would ban key workers from going on strike’. I am so pleased the work they put in, paid dividends – it is rare we have a whole school competition between all 11 Houses and win.
I do not think we have had such a successful sporting term for some time. We won all the Junior Netball both Cup and Plate. The final cup game verses Hazeldene was a great game we won 3-2 but the defence and the movement was very difficult to keep up with as both teams moved very quickly to try to get the ball in the ‘D’. It was thrilling to watch and a great compliment to all involved for their netball talent. In the Senior House Netball we unfortunately lost the cup narrowly as we drew two games and the Ottilie Hild team won more-but once again we did not actually lose a game. The Senior plate team were clinical in their efforts to win. Maddie Hart scored a huge amount of goals to ensure a victory.

We also won the 1.2 relay. For those of you that have never seen this, it is a really tricky distance, neither a sprint nor a jog, you just have to get round as quickly as possible. The team performed very well with Winnie Padmore setting a good pace in her first ever 1.2. It did get very close at one point, with Ottilie Hild House, but Lucy Hatfield finished the race with a 4 min 50 circuit, which was the best in the School. Well done Chloe Adcock, Ella Loftus, Emily Collett, Winnie Padmore, Lucy Hatfield and Grace Richardson.
I would also like to congratulate Anya Sanikop and Sophia Meadows for completing their DofE Gold award. This again takes time and effort and I know they expedition is quite gruelling. Well done.
Socially, we have had a foodie term. We all need comfort food to get through the dark mornings and evenings. We have had House Breakfast very kindly paid for the TCPA. In addition, we have had pancake morning and Easter egg hunt.

The TC Ball was also a well-attended event. Lots of parents came to support the House and enjoy themselves at Grafton Manor. The room was beautifully decorated by the TCPA and the photographer they employed for the evening was great fun. I would like to thank the TCPA for all their efforts towards the Ball. Everyone looked as though they were having a good time.

Outside of School we have had success in horse riding. Chloe Chan is working through various stages to try to aim for the European Championships in Le Mann in July. She is not only involved in eventing but also working hunter competitions. We wish her the best of luck.

I would like to thank the Tutors for their support of both me and the girls. They work hard on behalf of the girls to ensure they have someone to turn to and give them encouragement.

I would also like to thank the TCPA for giving their time to support the House, contributing physically and financially to events. They meet once or twice a term, and if you would like to get involved, please email me.
Just a polite reminder that we return to School in summer uniform.

I wish you all a restful Easter holidays.

Kind regards
Kay Hannah
