Students commit to work on the School health centre garden for the duration of the year. They prove their ability to work as part of a team to clear, weed, plant and harvest produce and then finally to cook some of this produce to sell for Charity or to give to friends.
Pupils learn the importance of planning and seeing a project through to completion. They are not afraid to get their hands dirty, no job is too menial, and they have to be willing to volunteer.
During the winter months when on certain days the garden is inaccessible, students work to make eco-friendly goods to sell at Christmas to again support local Charity.
The garden is situated behind the health centre and students have created spaces for patients to sit and enjoy displays of scented flowers to lift their spirits. Herb beds are being created and areas to encourage wildlife. The pond is maintained along with other general garden maintenance.
