Bromsgrove School

International Entry

For International pupils joining Bromsgrove please go to the Joining Instructions page to download the relevant information.

Bromsgrove's mission statement says - very deliberately - that the School wants to produce pupils who "respond"  to change. Not "react" as if caught unaware, but  "respond" as if purposefully answering a question. And the biggest questions facing humanity will only be answered if different races and cultures understand one another.

Though over twelve hundred of the fifteen hundred pupils in the constituencies of Bromsgrove School are British, Bromsgrove is home to thirty-five different nationalities. We celebrate this and take enormous pride in the unique atmopshere such a demographic produces. Many large universities have less diversity than Bromsgrove, and when a pupil leaves this School, they will understand that no nation, no indiviudal can stand alone. We dare to hope that seeds of future cooperation are sown in our classrooms, debating halls and playing fields.

Bromsgrove School is always delighted to consider bright, high achieving students who are likely to go on to top UK and other world-class universities.  We do expect a reasonable level of fluency in the English language from the outset (though we offer a great deal of extra language support to our international pupils where it is needed).

Pupils applying from outside the United Kingdom, are asked to apply via an educational agency.  The main reasons we require the use of educational agents are to help pupils through the selection process, assist with paperwork, legalities and translation.  In addition, since every pupil looking to enter Bromsgrove School has to sit our Entrance Examination, it is necessary for a registered body to administer testing. If a pupil is already studying within the United Kingdom we normally ask the pupil to visit Bromsgrove School to be interviewed and assessed.

Information for Educational Agents

In order to act as an agent we do first require you to sign our Agents' Agreement which can be obtained from our Marketing Department.  Before we can consider students for testing we do require our agents to supply us with the following information:

  • A completed agents' form for international students.
  • A letter of application from the candidate - about 200 words in English to include details about themselves, their University and career aspirations and (for Sixth Form candidates, age 16+) likely IB or A level choices.
  • An agent's report - a confidential report on the agent's thoughts regarding each applicant.  This should include such details as education, plans, family circumstances, personality and interests, and language ability.  We do expect our agents to give due consideration as to whether a candidate is likely to succeed in gaining a place here and hope that this report will give additional details that will not be evident from the candidate's application.
  • The candidate's last two school reports, translated into English.

All the above can be faxed to us and should be sent for the attention of Mrs Jayne Gwillam, Admissions Co-ordinator (fax 00 44 1527 872618). When we have received all the above information we will decide whether we can consider the applicant.

If we do wish to consider the application further, you will be notified by email and a Pupil Registration Form should be completed. The completed form should be posted to us with the £100 Registration Fee and a photocopy of the pupil's passport.  Upon receipt of these we will send you the relevant test papers for the agent to administer. We do ask that all of our entrance examinations are taken under strict examination conditions.

Original copies of the test papers should be returned to us as soon as possible. A decision as to whether to offer a place will usually be made within 7 days of receipt,  unless we notify you differently.

Agents who successfully recruit pupils for Bromsgrove School are paid 10% of the first year’s fees and 5% of the second year’s fees as commission for each introduction. Commission is paid to agents when we have received payment of fees from pupils. Fees, and thus commission, are paid termly.

Please see the attached pdf of our flowchart giving a detailed outline of the application procedure for agents.
