Wild Wild West

Year 3 were transported back in time to c.19th America, for a rootin’ tootin’ Wild West Fun Day to celebrate the end of their Summer Term Creative Curriculum topic, “Yee-Ha!”.
The children used their mathematical skills to design an imaginary Frontier town, as well as Native American headdresses. All of the children chose to hand over some hard-earned dollars to enable them to practice their ’shooting’ skills in “Tin-Can Alley”, and some had a go at another important cowboy skill by ‘lassoing’ a wild bucking bronco. As if this wasn’t enough, a group of pupils decided that they were now outlaws-in-training, and tried their hand at cattle rustling, which prompted a crazy gallop across the field on pool noodle horses with the Sheriffs and Texas Rangers in hot pursuit.
Year 3 also enjoyed an impromptu, but very beautiful, performance of some of their Wild West songs, helped by Mrs Russell, and the children all thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Mrs Lewis’ special birthday by sharing the lovely cakes, which were very kindly sent in by Mrs Downs and Mrs Grove. Mrs Lewis would like to thank the children for helping her to have such a special day, and also to the parents for their generosity. Many thanks also to Mrs Morgan and Mrs Wood for loan of the straw bales which helped to set the scene.
Well done, Year 3; we have LOVED coming along on this learning journey with you- and thank you for all of your hard work this term.
