What happens on Results Day for Upper Sixth pupils?

Posted: 11/08/2022

In preparation for Results Day next Thursday, any courses that have spaces will be avaible to research through Clearing. This is accessed on the UCAS Course Search site - https://digital.ucas.com/search

Students should look for three or four courses that they would be happy to apply to if they go into Clearing. They should make a note of contact telephone numbers, and have a copy of their UCAS Track number and all application details to hand. If a student is upset, having all the prepared information to hand will help tremendously.

Here are some tips to help your child in the lead up to, and on Results Day, taken from the UCAS website:

• Results day can be stressful, so make sure you know how it works and what to expect. Please see the information on the UCAS website - www.ucas.com/undergraduate/results-clearing

• Have UCAS Track sign in details handy to update contact details.

• Make sure you are available on results day. UCAS and universities will not speak to anyone else about your application details unless you have given them nominated access to speak on your behalf.

What happens on the day?
Hopefully, you will confirm your Firm or Insurance choice, but if you just miss out on grades required, the university or college might accept you anyway. You may be offered an alternative by the university/college – a 'changed course offer' (which you'll need to accept or decline).

If you are not placed at either your Firm or Insurance place - or you have changed your mind/not holding an offer – the research you have done beforehand on available places will help you enormously. If no decisions are showing, give your universities or colleges a call to find out more. Be prepared for all outcomes!

If you do better than expected, and have a conditional firm offer you have met and exceeded with your grades, you might be curious about courses with higher entry requirements. If so, you can see what is available through clearing. Those who wish to change universities at confirmation can use ‘Decline My Place’ to enter Clearing and, if they use Clearing Plus, they will be signposted to relevant universities with spaces whose entry requirements match the student’s results

If you meet the conditions of your offer - congratulations! Your confirmation letter should appear in Track five to seven days after your place is confirmed (your letter is not emailed or posted to you).

If your results are not what you were hoping for, and you were planning on going to university, we strongly recommend securing a place through Clearing and then give yourself time to reflect. If you procrastinate about resits etc, you may lose valuable opportunities that can be declined later. Whichever university you go to, you will make it your own.

Make sure you check your confirmation letter carefully – it will say if there is anything else you need to do, or if your university or college will be in touch with further instructions, for example, to provide proof of your qualifications or medical requirements.

The Bromsgrove Futures and Exams Teams will be available from 08:30am on Thursday 18 August.
