IAPS National Netball Champions

On Friday afternoon, the U12 netball team became IAPS National Netball Champions and the U13s came third in the same competition.

The U13s played five group stage matches playing Taunton Prep first which they narrowly lost 11 - 9. After this game, the girls picked themselves up and played superb netball to win against the defending National Champions Farleigh School 9 - 8. Following this they played Felsted Prep School and won 9 - 5. With confidence high, they also beat Westbourne House School 13 - 5 and Brambletye 11 - 7. This placed Bromsgrove as second in their group and through to the quarter-finals against Millfield School. This was a fantastic game that was extremely close. However, Bromsgrove made a great start to go three goals up early on and they held on to this lead to win 11 - 8. In the semi-final match against Hurstpierpoint College, it was goal for goal throughout the match but unfortunately Hurstpierpoint won by one. Bromsgrove then played in a 3rd/4th play off game against Taunton who we had already lost to in the group stages. Bromsgrove were determined not to lose this time though and played some excellent netball to win 12 - 6 and were thoroughly deserving of their bronze medals and third best IAPS School placing in the country.

The U12s had six group stage matches where they faced Taunton first and had a magnificent start winning 9 - 6. Next came St Hugh’s in a very tough game but Bromsgrove held on for the win 8 - 7. Against Clifton College, the girls showed dominance throughout to win 10 - 3. In the last three games we beat Highfield School 7 - 2, Downsend 11 - 2 and finally St Faith’s 7 - 3. This placed Bromsgrove top of the group and through to the semi-final against Hurstpierpoint College. This was a very tense game with both sides making mistakes, but fortunately we came out on top winning 8 - 7. This put Bromsgrove in the National Final against St Hugh’s who we had already beaten in the group stage match. It went goal for goal in the first half then Bromsgrove upped their game to pull away and we were all elated to win 10 - 6 and be crowned undefeated IAPS National Champions. Something that a Bromsgrove U12 team have not done since 2007. Incidentally, this was the year this particular team were born.

Congratulations to all the girls for being part of what has been the School’s best ever overall result at this competition.
