IAPS Athletics Qualifier

Yesterday, a number of our leading boy and girl athletes from Years 5-8 made the trip down south to Abingdon to take part in the annual IAPS athletics qualifier. All athletes who finished in first place gained automatic qualification for the National Finals at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on Tuesday, 3rd July, with the possibility of athletes who finished in second place also gaining qualification depending on the strength of their performance.

This turned out to be an incredibly busy, exciting and rewarding day for many of our Bromsgrovians.


BOYS' REPORT
Year 8
1st: Louis U, 10.91 seconds, 75 metres hurdles (only 0.11 of a second off national record) PB

2nd: Louis U, 40.34 seconds, 300 metres (new school record, his fourth of the season) PB

1st: Zachary A, 11.82 metres, shot put with 3.25kg weight PB

2nd: Harry D-B 11.16 metres, shot put with 3.25 kg weight PB (This is the first time ever we have had two Prep School boys throw shot over 11 metres on the same day)

1st Harry D-B, 32.90 metres discus

2nd: Sebastian P, 4 minutes 55 seconds, 1500 metres (fastest time ever in a School vest)

2nd: 4 x 100 metres relay, 51.86 seconds Billy M, Louis U, Thando B, Ayush L and Joe M


Year 7
1st: Joe M, 1.45 metres, high jump PB


Other boys who gained a top six finish were as follows:

3rd: William H, 4 minutes 49 seconds, 1500 metres PB
(first time ever we have had two Prep School pupils under 5 minute barrier for 1500 metres in the same race)

3rd: Billy M 75 metres Hurdles, 11.49 seconds PB (new School record which had stood for 22 years but Louis U ran faster to lower record further, and the first time ever our Prep School has had two boys go under 12 seconds for 75 metres hurdles on the same day

3rd: Joe M, 26.75 seconds, 200 metres PB

3rd: Thando B, 9.72 metres, triple jump

4th: Louis H, 29.15 metres, javelin PB and 23.49 metres discus

4th: Cyrus P, 2 minutes 26 seconds, 800 metres

5th: Billy M, 4.78 metres, long jump

5th: William B, 1.40 metres, high jump PB

6th: Henry J, 2 minutes 30 seconds, 800 metres

6th: Alex R, 26.75 metres, javelin


Year 7
4th: Joe M, 28.48 seconds, 200 metres PB

4th: Oliver H, 8.97 metres, shot put PB

5th: Hanli Y, 23.25 metres, discus PB and 8.48 shot put PB

5th: Sebastian H, 19.33 metres, javelin

5th: 4 x 100 metres relay of G.Hastings, K.Reid, J.McLoughlin, L. Ingram

6th Rohan A, 2 minutes 37 seconds, 800 metres PB

6th Daniel V, 12.05 seconds, 70 metres Hurdles in heats PB


Years 5 & 6
4th: Oliver D, 2 minutes 37 seconds, 800 metres (new School record) PB. Oliver also broke the high jump School record with his best jump of 1.25 metres PB

5th: William P, 5 minutes 12 seconds, 1500 metres PB

6th: James H, 4.16 metres, long jump PB

Robert S broke the Year 5 boys' 200 metres School record with his time of 30.71 seconds PB.

Whel all the points totals had been tallied for all the thirty schools taking part, Bromsgrove boys finished as runners up just twenty points behind the top scorers.
