Mr Broadbent's race report from Castle Combe last weekend (16th September 2018):

The DT Greenpower race team attended a highly anticipated race at Castle Combe last weekend for the final heat of the season. Our Nemesis and arch rival, Megazord, was also in attendance. Last year they beat us by 0.2 miles in the same heat and then went on to beat us again in the finals in that same season.
With the new speed controller bedding in nicely, our drivers well drilled and the car looking good, we fitted our standard drive sprocket and went out to see if we could set a good early distance. Race one was a standard chicken affair and we settled into the race at about 26th out of the 60 odd race teams that were in attendance. Although we had a pit change that took longer than normal because of traffic, we still managed to power on and win our category comfortably and came in 9th overall.

The second race was our chance to move into uncharted territory and try our fastest sprocket set up. After a frantic lunch changeover of motor components, we were ready for race two. Strategies in place and team prepped, we headed off with the faster components doing their part and was lapping about 6 seconds faster compared with race one, which meant that we were pulling away from last year’s Kitcar world champions quickly and moving up through the ranks of hand built competitors at a very alarming rate…had we over egged the gear ratios? We came in for our first pit change and swapped drivers but on exiting the pit lane, we ran into the back of another car which bent the brake disc, wishbone components and caused the car to be on the brakes for the rest of the race. Although we finished the race crawling, we finished, which suggested that the newer, faster components would last as long as we kept the car together for the entire race.

Because we set another personnel record at Castle Combe in the first race which was further than any of the other Kitcars, we won the Kitcar category and our best place was 9th overall.

Now for the finals in a few weeks’ time…we feel that this is our year to win.

I would like to thank the team for their fantastic efforts at Castle Combe: Hamish S, Jeffery S, Polly D, Freya T and Aggie W.

Also, thanks to our sponsors Gorilla Glue UK, NS Optimum and BAL Aluminium.
