Boarding IS fun!

Bromsgrove School is proud to be one of the finest boarding schools in the UK with pupils coming from over 50 nationalities to live and learn at the School.

There are currently over 100 international boarders in residence, all of whom have been at School since the start of January and some of whom even spent the Christmas holidays at School. The boarders at Bromsgrove, just like the rest of the UK population, have had to become accustomed to new routines and procedures. Many of their friends are not on site and, of course, no day pupils are at School but they are keeping busy and are well protected in their boarding house bubbles. On their return to School in January 2021, all boarders were PCR tested and we now have our own lateral flow testing unit for the weekly testing of all staff and pupils.

Life is never dull for the young people who call Bromsgrove School home, and, at the moment, the staff who are looking after the boarders are coming up with may inspiring ways of making sure that they remain happy and well. Recent activities have included a wellness day – decorating stones with messages of happiness, quiz and film nights in the boarding houses and they are lucky to have such extensive grounds to exercise and play in – the recent snow was an opportunity for snowman building and sledging.

Meanwhile the sports department are on a mission to walk the world virtually, with all the countries that we have boarders from being visited along the way. So far the activity, in which all the pupils can log their cardio activities, has already taken them through fifteen countries, starting in Bromsgrove and heading east through Europe - the next stop being Ukraine. The route will continue across the Middle and Far East and Australasia before going to America and then heading back to England. This is an exciting challenge and demonstrates to everyone how far from home some of our pupils are.

Half Term is planned to be a restful week for the 100 boarders who will remain at School, with many activities planned on site – from tennis to trampolining and badminton to baking, the youngsters are looking forward to logging off from their virtual lessons and enjoying some free time – we are hoping for good weather but we are certain no-one will complain if there is more snow over the holiday!
