Aden Symonds (Walters 1997-2011)
Aden Symonds (Walters 1997-2011) is currently studying for his Masters in Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University, and for the 2013/14 season gained a placement with Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains. The Company designs, supplies and supports the provision of engines for Formula 1 teams Mercedes, Williams, Force India and McLaren.
Aden has been part of the small specialised team of High Performance Engineers working with the brand new Formula 1 engines which have been required in response to the introduction of new engine regulations by the FIA. This has meant constant innovation and working long hours in a high pressured environment. Aden has spent the year, which is now drawing to a close, working on the development and reliability of the new engines and has directly helped with simulation work and combustion development. Some of his highlights have been supporting live race practice sessions taking place around the world, from the factory track support office and direct discussions with Lewis Hamilton, Andy Cowell, Niki Lauda and others regarding Engine performance. He has been part of an historic year in the industry and is shown in the photo alongside the Winning Constructors Trophies for the first four races of the season.
Aden has been offered a guaranteed place on their Graduate training scheme, held for him whilst he completes the final two years of his Masters Degree at Loughborough. There are over 500 highly qualified worldwide applicants per place and the normal selection process is lengthy and intense. Instead the placement year has acted as a year long interview which Aden has passed with flying colours.
He returns now to University having learned much about himself and the industry and will be able to concentrate on completing his studies, knowing he already has an F1 position waiting for him after Graduation.
