Dear Oakley Parents and Guardians

My apologies for the delay in sending a newsletter; I should learn that not everything goes to plan! There is a lot to catch up on with just a selection of recent successes and events below.

We returned this term to commemorate the fallen of World War One and subsequent conflicts and our girls treated the occasions with the utmost respect. If you haven’t already done so, I would urge you to read the Remembrance Address from the Headmaster, Mr Clague’s final one at Bromsgrove: https://www.bromsgrove-school.co.uk/hm-routh-address

The next whole School event that your daughters might have mentioned was, of course, House Song last week. To say I was proud of Oakley is an understatement. After weeks of rehearsals in their free time, under the patient watch of monitors Liv, Rafa and the team, the girls pulled off a brilliant performance on the day. I would like to pay special tribute to Katie who accompanied the girls with her usual modest yet undeniable talent at the keyboard. Since the event a number of staff have praised our girls for their superb performance. Follow this link for the whole show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBeoD082hrw

Here are some behind-the-scenes photos:

Congratulations to our girls who took part in this week’s St Celia’s Day Concert in Routh Hall: Anna, Bernice T, Sai-Nam, Shirley, Karis and Charissa.

Well done to Joelle K, Chantal and Toni who travelled to London as finalists in the Goldsmiths Community Engagement Award – deserved recognition for their outstanding contribution to charity work for local organisation The Basement Project.

Kamilla has been competing in some fencing competitions and took part in the Cocks Moors Woods Epee Championships, her first British event, finishing a credible 7th place. She won 3 out of 6 of her fights on the pools and winning her first Elimination fight with a score of 15-12, before going out in the last 8 to the number 1 seed. Great job Kamilla!

Congratulations to winner Anna at the recent table tennis tournament at Lillington. It’s great to see Oakley House so well represented: well done also to Karis, Nina and Sofiia.

Oakley House spirit was commended by the Bromsgrove sports staff on a dark Tuesday night last week when our 4th form made a splash in the House Swimming competition. My thanks to those who took part: Ashlina, Lora, Gabi, Charissa, Alvina, Jess, Sai-Nam, Bernice, Sophie, Lucy, Ibukun, Kalash and Ashna.

This afternoon sees the publication of the next round of AEO grades – alongside all the extra- curricular opportunities the girls have also been working hard. I would like to commend the following for their results this time:

Best Engagement (5+)
Clara
Caro
Tamika
Lara (all 6s!)

Best Attainment
L4: Sai-Nam & Kalash
U4: Shirley
Vth: Hatty, Namwan, Casey & Anna
L6: Emily & Maanha
U6: Lara & Rafa

Finally, you may have heard the squeals in your homes yesterday morning when our girls woke to a smattering of snow across campus!

The snow didn’t last long but the Christmas excitement will inevitably carry us through the rest of this term as the snow coincided with the delivery of our tree. On Saturday night the girls were treated to a chocolate fountain and other goodies as they took part in our traditional decorating of the Oakley House tree.

Best wishes
