Squash at Bromsgrove is very popular as a competitive and recreational activity. As well as bringing great enjoyment the game promotes fitness, determination and a competitive spirit at all levels.
Although contested by individuals, in recent years there has also been more of an interest in squash as a team game. The School has entered teams into the National Schools Championships at Under 19 Boys, Under 15 Boys and, more recently, an Under 19 Girls team has developed. All of the teams enjoy home and away fixtures with other local schools and gain a great deal from the experience.
Activities sessions take place 3 times per week and there is regular coaching in the evenings for team players. As squash is essentially a game for 2 players per court there are obvious limitations to the numbers who can participate at a session, but by the use of group coaching techniques we are able to progress players’ standards in technique and tactics.
The game of squash teaches good coordination, improves agility and reflexes and offers an intensive physical workout.
