Cricket flourishes at Bromsgrove. The 1st XI have achieved much success in recent years, and there are many promising junior players coming through the ranks. County players appear in every year group, as well as some individuals achieving Midlands representation. Throughout the age groups, Bromsgrove are regular finalists and / or winners of the countywide competitions. The 1st XI play overseas touring sides on a regular basis (most recently from Australia and South Africa), and have hosted their own end of season festival. Following the success of its First Class counterpart, Bromsgrove also enter the Independent Schools 20/20 National Competition, which is superb fun!
The School boasts seven cricket squares, four in the Senior School, and three in the Preparatory School, as well as seven outdoor nets and six indoor nets. As well as extensive block fixtures throughout the summer term (opponents include Warwick School, RGS Worcester, Loughborough Grammar School, Trent College and Shrewsbury School), the school has an excellent relationship with Worcestershire Young Cricketers and the England and Wales Cricket Board, who use the fine facilities and accommodation for county matches and regional training camps respectively. The School has forged close partnerships with both the Worcestershire CCC and Warwickshire CCC coaching and academy staffs, to enable the most talented players to explore a pathway towards Academy or even First Class cricket. Bromsgrove is passionate about players achieving their potential in cricket, be it for the Under 14b XI or as a 1st XI player on a county staff. The School provides fixtures for the following age groups and teams:
1st XI, 2nd XI, 3rd XI, Grasshoppers XI, Staff XI, U15a XI, U15b XI, U14a XI, U14b XI, U13a XI, U13b XI, U12a XI, U12b XI, Colts A XI, Colts B XI, U9a XI
Bromsgrove School sees itself as fortunate to have superb facilities, and as such, wishes to share them with other local clubs and schools with a passion for cricket. For the past five seasons the School has hosted the North Worcestershire Schools U15 tournament, played over a six week period, guaranteeing local state schools four matches on good pitches. Similarly, at the end of May, the School invites eight local clubs at Under 10 level to play a day long festival on the Senior School site - a tremendous day.
During the winter months, the School's staff and coaches work hard with individuals and teams, to ensure that they further their technical and tactical abilities. In recent years, the School has enlisted the help of a host of former and current county and international players and coaches to inspire Bromsgrove pupils into reaching their cricketing potential. Regular and guest coaches have included Trevor Penney (Assistant Coach, Sri Lanka), Ben Smith (former captain, Worcestershire CCC), Graeme Welch (Derbyshire CCC), Dougie Brown (Warwickshire CCC), Michael Powell (former captain, Warwickshire CCC), Richard Illingworth (ex Worcestershire CCC and England), John Harmer (former England's Women Coach), James Brinkley (former Worcestershire and Durham CCC, and Scotland international), and Tony Frost (Warwickshire CCC).
The summer (and winter) term is packed with cricket. Our philosophy is to provide opportunities for players of all ages and abilities. With the extensive programme already in place, together with the expertise the School can draw upon, cricket is a priority at Bromsgrove School.
