SECOND HALF OF SUMMER TERM

An excellent summer term was enjoyed by the whole House. Highlights included winning the Senior Cricket competition (now twice in the last three years), good performances on sports day and yet again a superb end to the year with the PA BBQ and cricket match. What follows are brief summaries of each House event:-
Monday 5th May – Sports Day at the Ryland Centre
Dry but somewhat cold our House team was led by led by Jonathan Marsh and marshalled by team manager Jonathan Ormonde. The team consisted of Max Thorpe, Adil Mirazayev, Chris Dodd, Max Gayler, Johnny Cheung, Josh Radford, Alex Morris, Andy Polychronakis, Dom. Roche, Philip Tear, Seb Mills, Oliver Turner, Jon Corbo, Andy Ling, Alex McGarry, Igor Tikhturov, Nick Spencer, James Douglas-Osborn, Todd Taylor, Christian Lau, Alex Ha and Rupert Waters. Overall we competed well coming 3rd in the U15 and U17 age groups. Notable performances from Chris Dodd, Phil Tear, Seb Mills and Michael Cheung.
Wednesday 7th May – Parents of new L4 (from The Prep School) visit the House
Parents of our new L4 day pupils for September visited the House. They were introduced to School House and given a tour by Rupert Waters and James Murray.
Wednesday 14th May – Senior House Cricket
After being Housman Hall in the semi-finals a strong senior House team brushed aside Elmshurst, who despite their excellent fielding could not contend with our very strong bowling and steadfast fielding. Excellent performances from Niran Chana, Mike Wyres, Josh Radford, Charles Eden, Edward Eden, Dominic Wall and Mannan Nawaz, more than compensated for our defeat last year by Elmshurst in a bowl-off.
Friday 16th May – School House PA 5-a-side tournament
Twenty-five boys and a few staff enjoyed this excellent competition. The games were competitive with a team comprising of Michael Cheung, Phil Barron, Mannan Nawaz, Jay Mercer and Mr Stone ending the evening as eventual winners. The PA funded the pizza, chips, pop and doughnuts in the House afterwards.
Tuesday 20th – Thursday 22nd May - Fourth Form Production
Max Gayler (Prince of Wales & messenger), Oliver Dunn (Dighton) and Lewis Martins (Lord Clifford) excelled in this excellent production adapted from Henry VI part iii and Richard III. Much blood and gore and depth of talent to be tapped next year in the house drama competition.
Thursday 22nd May – Junior House cricket
A young team of Alex McGarry, Max Gayler, Jon Corbo, Matt Allen, Max Thorpe, Chris Dodd & James Douglas-Osborn did well to hold their own against a strong Walters’ team, but alas finished second – still there is much promise for next year as six of those playing were Lower fourth.
Friday 23rd May – U6th Leavers’ breakfast
Instituted by our housemother, Ann Hibell, our leavers (and staff!) were treated to a full English breakfast served in the sixth form study from 8.00 am! (a real challenge for some boys!). We wish them well in their A2 examinations.
Friday 20th June – Boarders’ BBQ in the Annex garden
After the end of the examination period boarders enjoyed yet another BBQ in the annex garden. Once again the food was great and the company superb. All marvelled, yet again, at the ability of Dr Thompson to light a BBQ!

PA BBQ & Cricket
Once again we were fortunate with the weather and about one hundred and twenty people enjoyed a fiercely competitive, yet good natured, cricket match between the leavers’ XI, captained by “Marshy” and the PA XI captained by Gary Taylor. The result was yet another close contest well umpired by our housemother Mrs Hibell (no bribe paid!). However, the inspirational inclusion of Mannan Nawaz (Warwickshire Academy and Bromsgrove 1st XI) helped the PA XI cruise to victory with runs to spare. My thanks to the PA including Karen Dunn, Caroline Murray and Judith Waters for all their sterling work in organising the excellent food and my thanks to Gary Taylor and his wife and daughter too. House cufflinks were presented to all leavers in addition to leavers’ ties to all the U6th.
Leavers included:-
5th Form :- James Gray, Jay Mercer, William Parsonage, Nicholas Spencer, Todd Taylor
U6th : - Ryan Dunn, Charles Eden, Edward Eden, Alex Evans (presented Saturday) Jonathan Marsh, Jonathan Ormonde, Simon Powell, Josh Radford (presented Saturday) & Dominic Wall

1st HALF OF THE SUMMER TERM 2008
After many enjoyed an excellent Easter break, with Gold Duke of Edinburgh expeditions the Religious Studies trip to India and pre-season cricket training, the House returned to a chilly start to the send half of April. As always this has been a tough half-term for the three exam year groups with the meeting of coursework deadlines causing many a fair amount of angst, and decisions about GCSE choices for the Lower Fourth – still the only year group with no external examinations this term. Many boys in the House have represented the School in athletics, cricket, golf and tennis. In particular we have had five or six School House boys playing 1st XI cricket and the golf team dominated by, for the second year in a row by our boys. Congratulations too to Alex Morris upon being made a School Monitors and Simon Powell receiving his senior music colours.
Key “House” events of the term so far are detailed as follows. School wide news is detailed in other parts of the website and in the Deputy Headmaster’s weekly email. If by chance you do not receive his email then contact me and I will ensure that it is sent.
