It is our aim at Bromsgrove to stretch our brightest pupils well beyond the confines of the curriculum. Schemes of work at all levels and in all subjects have extension activities and reading built in to them with the purpose of ensuring that the brightest pupils are challenged. In addition, there are extra-curricular clubs and societies for the most able. Able pupils are identified using a variety of methods ranging from recommendation by subject teachers to results in internal examinations and aptitude testing. Some pupils opt themselves in to parts of the program which interest them and this is encouraged as well. Pupils in the Lower Fourth, Upper Fourth and Fifth Forms are invited to weekly lunchtime sessions designed to stimulate interest in topics not on the normal curriculum. Over the past three years many things have been discussed from the unique contribution of Einstein to the health benefits of chocolate! Senior pupils join subject specific groups and have extension sessions on Thursday afternoons. These aim to prepare the pupils for Oxbridge entrance but are designed to be as enjoyable as they are rigorous. |
