Since September 2005 the Geography Department has been located on the first floor of the new Humanities Building. Four well-equipped classrooms and 2 staff offices are grouped around a spacious landing whose colourful wall displays reflect the dynamic nature of geography; for example, the devastation caused by hurricanes and the urban vistas created by inner city regeneration. A direct 24 hour computer link to the EUMETSAT weather satellite complements teaching in all year groups.

Fieldwork is a departmental leitmotiv. Year 9 pupils visit the Wyre Forest to assess land use conflicts; Year 10 pupils visit the Carding Mill Valley near Church Stretton to measure key river variables such as depth, width and velocity; Year 12 pupils take part in a residential trip to North Wales where they study the sand dunes at Harlech, beach defences at Criccieth and river management strategies at Llanwrst; Year 13 pupils visit central Birmingham to assess the impact of the new-look Bullring on customer catchments and tourism. This hands on approach ensures Geography remains a popular option subject at GCSE, AS and Advanced Levels.
