This large department offers a wide range of courses in Business and Economics and has been at the forefront of innovation both in school and nationally. Awards have come thick and fast and the department is used on a regular basis by teachers from other schools to witness good practice. Results are literally off the value added scale with the number of top grades achieving national recognition in the form of Good Schools’ Guide Awards.

The range of experiences our staff possess is immense, from those who have worked in the City through to senior examiners who wrote many of the courses offered. A range of other employment and examination experience enhances the breadth of teaching.

Lessons are vibrant: the emphasis placed on learning skills. The use of a wide range of case studies reflecting real life is at the heart of the approach used. The dynamic nature of the subjects offered is reflected in the wide variety of teaching methods. Pupils are required to work hard and to develop their decision making and problem solving skills. They may not all want to be top managers but the courses will simulate the requisite skills time after time.

Pupil success can be measured in many ways. The Business Studies/Economics department prides itself on ensuring pupils perform at their highest level. This can result in places at Oxbridge or LSE or at newer universities offering state of the art courses. The department has a ‘can do’ philosophy and this filters down into all aspects of our work.
