Sunday 19th October

Bright and early on Sunday morning, forty-six girls from Years 6, 7 and 8 met at School, all very excited to go to Jersey for the Bromsgrove biennial netball and hockey tour.

After a quick breakfast stop, we made our way to Gatwick for the short flight to Jersey. We met our coaches at the airport who took us on to St. Helier, then onto our hotel which was in a lovely position, right on the beach front. After checking in, we were taken to a local pool called ‘Aqua Splash’ where the girls enjoyed water slides, a tyre ride, a ‘beach’ pool, and main pool. We ate a delicious dinner at the hotel, the girls had a quick meeting about the following day then early to bed!

Monday 20th October

The girls were up for an early breakfast in preparation to go to the Creepy Valley Adventure Park. We separated into two groups and took it in turns to take part in giant inflatable fun games and a football shoot out in the sports hall and an obstacle course and ‘King Swing’ – a giant swing that takes you up to 9 meters off the ground and when released, allows you to swing up to 50mph!

In the afternoon, the girls travelled to Le Rocquier School to play their first set of matches. Bromsgrove had two equal U13/U12 teams playing netball against an A and B team.

The Bromsgrove team playing the opposition A team did extremely well in winning the second and fourth quarter, but lost the overall game 20 – 11.

The other Bromsgrove team were a great deal stronger than the B team and won 11 – 1.

At the same time, an U13 hockey side were up against Les Quennevais School. Bromsgrove were too strong for this team, despite Les Quennevais being unbeaten on the Island up until this point. Bromsgrove put 10 goals against them, before the umpires decided to stop the game early.

We then played another hockey match against a B side, and again Bromsgrove proved too strong for them and won 7 – 0. The U11 hockey side were also victorious winning 10 – 1.

In the evening, the girls put on a show called ‘Jersey’s Got Talent!’ It was a highly entertaining evening for all and congratulations to the girls who took part.

Tuesday 21st October

The morning was at leisure, so we headed into St. Helier for a shopping trip and ice cream before setting off to the next set of matches. The U11s had two teams against Jersey College for Girls. It was a very blustery day with gale force winds whipping around the netball court, not making game conditions easy.

Bromsgrove tried their hardest and kept going despite the windy and slippery conditions and won one game 8 – 1 and lost the other 7 – 4.

After the first set of netball games, we all made our way onto the Claremont astro pitches where Bromsgrove played Jersey College. The hockey continued their strong run of form with both our U11 sides winning 2 – 0. The U13Bs side won 7 – 0 and the U12s drew 1 – 1.

Following this, the U13 netball teams travelled to Les Ormes to play King’s High Warwick, who were also on tour in Jersey. Warwick had previously beaten us in a school fixture so we knew it would be a tough game. The girls played well and kept with the King’s girls until half time, but tiredness started to kick in from the past couple of days and it unfortunately showed on the court. The final scores were 28 – 14, and 13 – 8 to King’s Warwick.

After dinner, we went out bowling followed by a Halloween quiz which was enjoyed by all.

Wednesday 22nd October

The girls had a longer lie in this morning and packed their cases ready for check out. On the way to the airport, we visited ‘The Living Legend’, where everyone played Crazy Golf and watched a show teaching the girls all about the history of the island.
