Orchestral and Choral Works
Posted: 23/04/2018
On Sunday, 22nd April, a large and enthusiastic audience enjoyed classical orchestral and choral works by Haydn and Mozart.
In the first half, our GCSE students in Years 9 and 10 performed Haydn’s characterful
Andante from
Symphony no. 101 ‘Clock’. This particular movement is a GCSE set work and was arranged specially for the students and conducted by Miss Bool. Mr McKelvey conducted two music scholars who took their first steps in the realm of concerto performances as Jude Wynter performed Mozart’s
Andante from
Piano Concerto no. 21, K.467 and Josh Osborn-Patel performed Mozart’s
Rondo from
Horn Concerto no. 2, K417. They both played with skill, emotional intelligence and great beauty, accompanied by a fantastic orchestra comprising Bromsgrove students, staff, invited guests and our Chairman of Governors, all expertly led by our very own Head of Strings Miss Swadling.
The second half featured Haydn’s
Nelson Mass performed by students and staff of the Bromsgrove Prep and Senior School Chapel Choirs who were in fine voice. Of our four fantastic soloists, two are current singing staff: Ms Vango (soprano/Head of Vocal Studies) and Mr Thornborough-Barlow (bass), who were joined by Rebecca Buswell (alto) and Dale Harris (tenor). A momentous concert for all involved!
