IAPS National Finals
Posted: 27/11/2017
The girls' team made the exciting, yet nervous journey down to Ipswich on Thursday 23
rd
November to represent Bromsgrove Prep in the IAPS National Finals the following day. The girls came up against some tough schools in the group stages, yet demonstrated some very skilful and mature styles of hockey. The first match was against the very talented Cranleigh School where the girls unfortunately lost 2-0. Bromsgrove put in a hardworking performance and defended right until the final whistle. Next the girls displayed a dominant performance against Sandroyd School, and came out with a 1-1 draw. The following matches against Twyford School, Chigwell Junior and The Elms all ended with a draw, however this did not reflect the fantastic team performances put in and the clever styles of hockey played. Our final match was against Kings Hall, where unfortunately the final score was a 1-0 loss. Nevertheless, this did not affect the girls' chances of progressing through the competition. They went on to qualify for the quarter finals of the ‘Bowl’ competition, and narrowly missed out on progressing into the semi-finals due to a last minute goal scored by their opponents St Faiths, Cambridge.
The girls were disappointed, however incredibly proud of their achievements throughout the day and most importantly, everyone enjoyed the fantastic experience and can’t wait to have a go again next year. Not only was this a tough competition day, but also a great experience for the U12s to develop their hockey and team work skills. Their encouragement of each other and positive attitudes all contributed to a brilliant day out. Well done girls.
