Posted: 13/08/2015

Bromsgrove School has maintained its impressive average of recent years with pupils achieving 85% of grades at A*- B. Of all its 174 A level students, 10 scored more than 5 A grades, 25 gained more than 4 A grades and a third of students scored at least 3 A grades. This comes against the backdrop of a nationwide drop in top grade A level passes.

Headmaster Peter Clague said he is very proud of the maintenance of such high levels of academic success was in light of the national tightening of standards. He commented, “Rigour builds trust in our qualifications system and it is particularly pleasing that students continue to excel in a more challenging regime”.

Local boy Matthew Lynch gained 5 A* grades and will now go to the University of Oxford to study Material Sciences. Also going to Oxford is Adam Grenfell where he will study Physics, Adam gained 4A*s and an A grade. These terrific results were also achieved by boarders Donna Liu (Queen Mary’s, Medicine) and Gary Qu (UCL, Statistics, Economics & Finance).

These superb results come on top of the wonderful IB results achieved earlier in the Summer which saw Bromsgrovians achieve an average score of 39 with Teresa Heidland scoring an outstanding 45 and Ellie Saker scoring 44, Ellie will also go to Oxford to study Physics. 35% of the total cohort scored at least 40 points with the group achieving an A Level equivalent of 86% A*- B. In BTEC Sports all but two of the 41 BTEC grades achieved a Distinction star* (D*), equivalent to an A grade at A level.

Exactly 200 Upper Sixth Formers at Bromsgrove School took 700 qualifications this Summer, ranging from A level to IB Diploma and BTEC. Over 60% of overall qualifications achieved an A* or A grade equivalent. 27% of all exam entries achieved the challenging A* grade, whilst 85% scored at least a B grade.

Meanwhile the Lower Sixth year group proved to be a group to watch by matching the School’s best ever performance in their intermediate AS exams. Both the new Head Boy and Head Girl gained straight A grades. In addition Emily Smith gained two A* grades at A Level and 2 A grades in AS, whilst Elvis Zhang achieved a superb 2 A* in A Levels and three AS A grades.
