No other subject should excite children more than Science. The idea of testing, heating and burning many different materials in a well equipped laboratory enthuses every one of them. The scientific education in the Preparatory School seeks to feed and develop this enthusiasm and then maintain interest and understanding throughout life.

From Year 5 onwards the children are taught by specialist staff supported by a technician. Practical equipment and materials are also provided for the pupils in Years 3 and 4 to use. As befits an important core subject we have a generous time allowance. Seventy minute lessons and the excellent equipment available mean the children are able to do the experiments rather than simply watching a member of staff demonstrate, ensuring learning and enjoyment through practical work.

Pupils are put into Science sets, allowing staff to teach according to the ability range. However, every pupil in the year covers the entire syllabus and  takes the same Topic tests. The results of the tests give an accurate attainment grade throughout the year. There is no barrier preventing any child reaching their full potential.

We expect the highest academic standards, encouraging the use of ICT in the laboratory with data logging and independent investigation in the ITC suite next door. Science is covered as a single subject but taught in Biology, Physics and Chemistry topics. The work covered in Years 7 and 8 gives every Bromsgrove Preparatory pupil the very best springboard for their move to our Senior School.
