Mathematics in the Preparatory School has grown in popularity over the past ten years and commensurate with this have been the rising standards. The curriculum is designed on three two year cycles i.e. Y3/4, Y5/6 & Y7/8. Key Stage Two culminates in a number of Year 6 children participating in the National Primary Mathematics Challenge. At the end of the primary phase national curriculum level 5 have become the bench mark for the school and level 3s are now very few.

Characteristically Mathematics causes more anxiety with parents than almost any other subject and yet it has evolved over the past few years into a less feared and more celebrated subject. Some of the more able pupils in Year 8 participate in the National Junior Maths Challenge.  Children enter the six-year period at approximately National Curriculum Level 2a. The expectancy is for the majority to leave at the end of Year 8 working within level 5/6 and numerous children at level 7 plus. This then sets the base for the IGCSE in Years 9 to 11.

Children in all six Preparatory years follow the National Curriculum; more able children experience concepts and topics outside this framework. There is a small provision for those children who find the pace and rigour of the daily lessons rather too exacting and they receive an additional support lesson once a week in a group of two or three.
