Design and Technology is about designing and making. Here at Bromsgrove we aim to give all students the opportunity to practice a wide range of technological experiences. The progression through the subject, from class based learning in years three and four through subject specific learning in years five and six and specialist teaching in years seven and eight, allows pupils to develop their skills through 'design and make'' tasks in preparation for the transition to the Senior School.

The department prides itself on its facilities, the ability of the teaching staff and the high quality work produced by all pupils. The department is housed in the Llanwrtyd Centre, a purpose built specialist building opened in 1991, and has full workshop facilities for working in wood, metal and plastics together with a suite of computers running the latest 2d and 3d CAD software. Output from these can also be in two or three dimensions through the CAM facilities available.

Close links are well established with the Senior School with staff teaching in both sections. This not only helps pupils in their transition between schools but also in the development of the subject; in which the department is very much at the forefront and actively takes up new initiatives. The department was very proud to be invited to be the representative school and promote the subject at the recent NEC Design and Technology exhibition. The subject by its very nature is always looking to the future but in doing so will not lose touch with the foundation elements of the subject namely, the practical application of scientific principles through the designing and making of good quality outcomes to realistic problems. We are, after all, designing our future.
