WEDNESDAY 12TH MARCH
U12 B NETBALL V THE DRAGON

The girls battled hard, in very windy conditions, against a tough opposition. At half-time, we were 5-2 down! However, the girls remained focused and played with skill and determination throughout the second half, resulting in a 6-5 win for Bromsgrove. The U12 girls remain undefeated.

U12 C NETBALL V THE DRAGON
The girls showed excellent team work in windy conditions! The improvements made by them over the season were clearly noticeable! Well done girls on a well deserved win (15-6)!
Miss Lightfoot

U12 D NETBALL V THE DRAGON
Lovely defensive work was displayed by Patsy in particular. True sportsmanship has been shown throughout the term and today was no different! Not a win, unfortunately, but congratulations girls on a great season.
Miss Kennedy

SATURDAY 15TH MARCH

AAA Inter Counties Championships
On Saturday, Rebecca Straw and Lydia Trow represented Worcestershire AAA's in the UK Inter Counties Championships at Nottingham. This is the toughest competition anywhere in the UK and you have to be selected via your county to take part. The event this year was live on Sky Sports; Rebecca came home in 52nd place and Lydia in 189th from a finishing field of 300 runners.

U13 IAPS NATIONAL NETBALL FINALS
Bromsgrove played 8 matches in the playoff rounds against many unfamiliar schools.  We played Millfield in our second match and beat them comfortably 9–4 (a good win to have under their belts so early on in the proceedings).  We safely won all qualifying games to play Chafyn Grove in the semi final.  However, this turned out to be a hard game for Bromsgrove with a close final score of 6-5.  This made Bromsgrove really concentrate on what was at stake for the final.  The final was end to end nail-biting purgatory for those watching and when the final whistle went Bromsgrove had secured a win of 4–3 against Cranleigh School, Surrey.  The girls really raised their game and credit must be given to all members of the squad who willed each other on either on the court or off it.  This is the second year running that Bromsgrove has won at this high level – the girls won at U12 and now at U13 – a fantastic achievement for the girls and School.

U12 GIRLS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
On Saturday an U12 team took part in a tournament at Cheltenham Ladies College. In the round robin competition Bromsgrove beat Millfield, King’s Worcester, drew with St Edwards and Cheltenham and lost to the eventual winners Pate’s Grammar School by just 1-0. Bromsgrove gained in confidence throughout the afternoon despite the constant rain and howling wind and finished the afternoon as runners up. A very good all round performance.
Mrs Bourne

Please note: The final of the U13 County netball will not now be played; the rescheduled competition was abandoned in poor light.  We had won through to the final but the other semi-final could not be completed .  All the schools were in agreement that the competition could not be completed in the conditions, nor was there time to reschedule before the end of term.

Saturday 8th March
ESAA SAINSBURY’S NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Rebecca Straw represented the County at this National Final held in Liverpool.  Running against mainly Year 9 girls Rebecca finished in 47th position in a field of nearly 350 runners. Rebecca was the first runner home for Herefordshire & Worcestershire.

U9 A & B RUGBY V WARWICK SCHOOL
On Saturday, the U9 A & B Rugby teams had their first match of the season. The A team battled well but went down 8 tries to 0. The B team featured slightly better and went down 1-5 with William Draper-Barr scoring our only try.

Monday 10th March
JUNIOR BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING V WARWICK PREP & WARWICK JUNIOR
On Monday, nearly 50 juniors swam against Warwick School Junior & Prep Schools. This was a resounding success for our pupils with several victories recorded and new personal best times achieved. One school record was broken by the U-8 girls freestyle relay team of Niamh Donovan, Talia Mitchell, Eleanor Childs and Rachel Weller who took an amazing 8 seconds off the previous long-standing record time set by the current Year 9

Wednesday 12th March
U10 A, B, C NETBALL V THE DRAGON –
In very windy conditions all of the teams battled against strong opponents in their last match of the season. Excellent second half play by the A team contributed to their victory and in the other two matches, closed the gaps in the score lines. Final scores: U10 A won 8-6,
U10 B lost 8-4,
U10 C lost 7-5.

U11 A NETBALL V THE DRAGON
This was an excellent performance against a strong and physical Dragon team. Katherine Hill worked tirelessly at Centre gaining many interceptions and Sophie Swatkins and Ellie Saker converted most of their opportunities into goals.
Final score: Bromsgrove 19, The Dragon 16.

U11 B NETBALL V THE DRAGON
Bromsgrove lost to very strong opposition but played well and tried their best throughout the game.

U13 C NETBALL V THE DRAGON
In spite of playing in very windy conditions, the girls pulled together to play some of the best netball they have displayed all season, and as a result won the game. Final score: 12-5.

U13 B, C, D NETBALL V THE DRAGON
The girls played well and the shooters in particular worked very hard. The matches were all close but Bromsgrove fought well and won all three matches.

1st XI HOCKEY V BILTON GRANGE
Our last game of the season was against Bilton Grange. We had lost 0-1 to them in the IAPS mini hockey competition but we knew we were capable of pushing them close if we played well. Unfortunately, two very soft goals in the first ten minutes set the tone for the rest of the game and we never really threatened them at all; losing 0-5 was a fair score line.

Thursday 13th March
U9 RUGBY TOURNAMENT
On Thursday, we hosted a quadrangular U-9 Rugby tournament at home which featured ourselves, Blue Coat School Edgbaston, RGS The Grange and Winterfold House.
In our first match we played Blue Coat, but despite going behind, we rallied well to equalise through captain Ted Duberley – we could have won the game late on, but we didn’t capitalise on an excellent field position – final score 5-5.
In our second game, we lost to a well organised RGS side 25-0 – RGS went on to win the tournament and only conceded one try.
In our last game, we beat Winterfold House 20-5 thanks to tries from Lawrence Hill, Ted Duberley and George Goodall.

U13 COUNTY NETBALL TOURNAMENT
Our girls played extremely well in this tournament beating Malvern School 13-2, Bewdley High School 23-0, Simon De Montfort School 16-2, Ridgeway School 13-1 and Kings Worcester 7-2. This led them into the semi-finals where they won aginst Malvern St James 19-1. Again we had accurate shooting from Kaya Wilson and Madeline Heggett and  superb defence from Pippa Brock and Monty Bent, only conceding 8 goals in the whole tournament. Unfortunately the tournament ran over time and the final could not be played due to poor light. This will be arranged after the Easter holidays.

IAPS NETBALL REGIONAL FINALS
The U13 and U12 netball teams travelled to Ranby House School, Nottingham. We played schools from the north of the country – Witham Hall, St. Anselms, St. Mary’s Hall, Foremarke Hall, Malsis as well as a team from Ireland, Rockport, and a team from Scotland, Criagclowan.  The whole day was very exciting, with a great deal of excellent netball being played.  Once again Bromsgrove were congratulated on their style and standard of play, their conduct on and off the courts, as well as how smart both players and teachers were! The U13’s scored a magnificent 105 goals with only 15 conceded throughout the whole tournament. Both Kaya Wilson and Madeleine Heggett made shooting look easy.  Defense from Pippa Brock and Monty Bent was strong. It proved the right preparation for this weekend when we travel to Roedean School for the finals.
The U12’s commitment and effort was never in question but they could not quite covert this into goals scored. The U12’s were hoping to come 3rd in a tough contest but unfortunately slipped to 5th place in the latter stages.

Jack Weston swimming for the Worcester club, won gold in the 50m backstroke in the Worcestershire County Championships.

James Taylor has been selected to represent Hereford & Worcester U10 County Tennis Squad at the 16 Counties Championships 2007/08 taking place at Corby, Northamptonshire on Sunday 6th April.  Opponents are Warwickshire, Cheshire and Surrey, so hopefully it will be a challenging and entertaining tournament.

Anybody who wishes to see how they have done in the Swimming IAPS Boys & Girls qualifier can visit the following website www.eteach.com. Final confirmation of swimmers will appear there on Monday evening. The top sixteen individual and top twelve relay times will qualify for the National Finals next term.

Sunday 2nd March

NATIONAL PREPARATORY SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
A record number of schools, 47 in total, entered this year’s Championships, with 890 runners taking part. Our U13 girls did the school very proud indeed when they were crowned National Preparatory School’s Cross Country Champions – the first time ever that the school has done this. We also had the individual winner in Rebecca Straw as a bonus.

SATURDAY 1ST MARCH

1st VII RUGBY – PACKWOOD SEVENS TOURNAMENT
The first of our 7-a-side rugby tournaments was the Packwood 7s. With very little real practice behind them, the team played well to win our first two group matches comfortably, scoring over 60 points in the process.
We then played against Prestfelde who were strong and aggressive; they put us off our stride and we never found our rhythm, losing to go through to the quarter finals as group runners-up. This that meant we had to play a very strong Warwick team who were simply too good for us.

WEDNESDAY 5TH MARCH

U13A NETBALL V TRENT COLLEGE
Despite missing a couple of players the U13A netball team started off strongly in their match against Trent College. Great movement and rotation by the two shooters Madeleine Heggett and Kaya Wilson enabled an early 7-1 lead by quarter time to be established. Excellent defence by Pippa Brock meant that Trent rarely got opportunities to shoot. Bromsgrove's continued good play and support for each other led them to a comfortable 22-8 victory.

U13D NETBALL V TRENT COLLEGE
This was the team’s second fixture and they played with determination and enjoyment. The whole team improved their skills throughout the game and won with a convincing score of 15-8, thanks largely to some accurate shooting by Millie Hayward and Alice Smith and some quick passing by the rest of the team. The girls are looking forward to their final game next week.

U12B NETBALL V TRENT COLLEGE
The girls played with skill and determination. Trent were a talented team but the under 12s persevered, resulting in a convincing win of 10-8.

U13C NETBALL V ABBERLEY HALL
The balance between the teams was uneven and we lost the match. The girls were praised by the umpire for their outstanding sportsmanship and cheerful manner even when facing a defeat.

U11B NETBALL V ABBERLEY HALL
The girls played very well in a tightly fought game, winning 6-5.  They managed to hold on to their initial lead against strong opposition who kept fighting back.  Congratulations to all for super effort.

SUNDAY 24TH FEBRUARY
1ST XI BOYS HOCKEY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Our first game was against Kings Heath and we won comfortably 2-0; we went on to win the other two games against Bredon Hill and Barford Hockey Club, 3-0 and 4-0 which meant we were against St Nicholas Hockey Club in the semi-final. This was won 2-0 and we found ourselves in the final with a repeat of our earlier match against Kings Heath. This time their defence was much tighter and despite all the pressure, we could not score. In a last attack however, James Goodall had a shot saved and it fell to William Cutler to score from the rebound to see us win the final 1-0.

U11 BOYS HOCKEY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The U11 boys’ hockey team qualified for the Midlands finals by winning the Worcestershire County 7-a-side tournament. They won their three group games all by 2 – 0 and then played Stourport HC in the semi-final, winning 1 – 0. The final was a very close affair against Bredon Hill School but, after a 0 – 0 draw, we were good enough to win 1 – 0 on penalty flicks.

24TH BROMSGROVE PREPARATORY SCHOOL INVITATIONAL SWIMMING RELAYS
Twenty seven schools and approximately two hundred and fifty swimmers took part in this annual event. The competition is one of the premier swimming events in the calendar in the midlands region. It was a great advert for the school that we can put on an event such as this. Our swimmers did very well; we qualified in six of the eight finals and either won or came runners-up in all the finals we contested.

1ST XI BOYS HOCKEY IAPS TOURNAMENT (MIDLANDS ROUND)
There were 6 schools competing for just 2 places at the National Finals and we knew it would be a very tough day. We started well, beating Beachborough 6-0 and playing excellent hockey. We then came up against strong opposition in the other matches and unfortunately failed to win any of the three matches.

WEDNESDAY 27TH FEBRUARY

1ST XI BOYS HOCKEY V CHELTENHAM COLLEGE
The Cheltenham team are a talented side and although we lost 0-3, we defended well and did not allow any goals through in open play. All the Cheltenham  goals came from short corners and we need to improve our defending here. Kit Thornton was man of the match for his terrific display in defence.

2ND XI BOYS HOCKEY V CHELTENHAM COLLEGE
After taking the lead through a goal from James Copper, his fourth in two games for the team, we conceded a sloppy equaliser off a short corner. Cheltenham scored their winner when we were caught on the break.  Final score 2-1.

3rd XI BOYS HOCKEY V CHELTENHAM COLLEGE
This was undoubtedly the hardest game of the season so far. Cheltenham were a physical side. Our boys rose to the challenge and the game was very close, but a goal in the second half by Fraser Bales ensured our victory.

4th XI BOYS HOCKEY V CHELTENHAM COLLEGE
One of our closest games although not evenly matched. The Bromsgrove team spent most of the game in the Cheltenham half and had a number of shots at goal, but no success.  At half time Bromsgrove were 2-1 down.  The second half was a huge improvement with Bromsgrove playing a more tactical game and eventually scoring the equalizer.  The whole team was very enthusiastic and played passionately, especially when the points were against us.

U11A, U11B BOYS HOCKEY V CHELTENHAM COLLEGE
We won a close and tense match against Cheltenham College Junior School, 2 - 0. Both sides had chances to forge ahead in the first half but fortune favoured our goal as the visitors missed all of theirs but we put away two. This was an extremely encouraging result for these boys following on from their County title win at the weekend. The B team did not fare so well, losing 5 - 1 to a skilful Cheltenham team.

U11A, U10A NETBALL v MOOR PARK
U11 A won 19-12 and U10 A won 16-3. It was a super afternoon’s play, in a lovely setting. Great shooting followed from hard work around the court, with Bromsgrove dominating both matches.

U12C NETBALL v MOOR PARK
The U12C team played well as a team, despite an aggressive opposition. They showed true sportsmanship in the face of defeat. Final score was 12-8 to Moor Park.

U13C NETBALL v MOOR PARK
Despite working very hard throughout the match, Bromsgrove unfortunately lost to a strong opposition. The game was very competitive however the Moor Park attack was overwhelming throughout all four quarters.

U13A & B, U12A & B NETBALL V KINGS SCHOOL WORCESTER
The standard of play was raised by playing a good netballing school and we came away with 3 wins and a loss. The play was generally fast, dynamic and exciting to watch. The U13 A ‘s won 32–8; the B ‘s won 24–11; the U12 B’s won 9–8 but the U12 A’s unfortunately lost the advantage they had with a final score of 8-27.

22 February

TUESDAY 19TH FEBRUARY
HOCKEY V SOLIHULL SCHOOL
1st XI BOYS

The 1st team played some of their best hockey of the season in a comfortable 9-0 win. The team work that led to several of the goals was excellent and Callum Phillips deserves special mention for scoring 6 goals. All the team played their part but William Cutler was man of the match for his tremendous play and distribution from midfield.

2ND XI BOYS
The 2nd XI Hockey team continued their fine season with a 7-0 victory versus Solihull School. Our scorers were James Cooper with a hat trick, Ben Harmer, William Hunt and Jack Robinson.

U10 DISTRICT NETBALL TOURNAMENT
The girls played a variety of district Schools; the quality of their netball went from strength to strength. A great team effort led to victories in all their matches and the girls finished as District Champions.

U11 DISTRICT NETBALL TOURNAMENT
Our girls had a good start to the tournament beating Alvechurch 6-1, Catshill 5-0, Aston Fields 3-0, and Witton 3-1. They then went on to beat Parkside 5-1 in the semi-final and played against Alvechurch in the final, winning 5-2. This was an excellent afternoon for our girls who played consistently well and scored from most of their opportunities.

WEDNESDAY 20TH FEBRUARY
U12 DISTRICT NETBALL TOURNAMENT

The U12 played 4 matches in their initial group winning them all, 11-0, 13-1, 11-2 and 10-2. This meant they won their group convincingly and played Dodderhill in the semi-final. They played well, winning 7-2 and progressed onto the final where they played St Johns. In this match the team played their best netball of the tournament and after a close start between teams Bromsgrove piled on the pressure and ran away with the game in the second half, winning the final 8-2.

NETBALL V DEAN CLOSE
U10

A superb afternoon’s play with all 3 teams winning: A won 7-2, B won 10-3, C won 17-1. The girls in each team worked very well together, and strong play around the court enabled plenty of shots at the goals. During the games standards were raised and all the players should be proud of their achievements. Special mentions go to Meaghan Dawson and Alice Elt, for excellent shooting in the C team match.

U11A & B
The U11A and B teams played Dean Close in very tight exciting matches from start to finish.  The final score for the A team was a win for Bromsgrove 9-8. Unfortunately the B team eventually lost 6 goals to 10 despite playing  fantastically in the last quarter this was not quite enough for them to win.

U13 NETBALL DISTRICT TOURNAMENT
Bromsgrove got off to a strong start beating Alvechurch 18-0. They continued their strong form by also beating Catshill 23-0 and St Johns 15-0 in their pool matches. Bromsgrove faced Waseley in the semi-final where they secured a comfortable 18-0 victory and then went on to win the final beating Parkside 12-1.
They are now District Champions.

U13B & C, U12B & C NETBALL V DEAN CLOSE
The girls played good netball and won all matches. The U13 C team won 19-0 and played much more as a team than their previous fixtures. The U13 B team won 21-11, out jumping Dean Close in all areas of the court. The U12 B won 12-7 and never stopped working and encouraging each other. The U12 C team also won, 14-3.

U8, U9, U10 & U11 SWIMMING GALA V EDGBASTON HIGH & HOLY TRINITY
All girls swam excellently both in the individual events and relay events. This resulted in a convincing win with Edgbaston 2nd with 72 points and Bromsgrove 1st with 82 points.

HOLE-IN-ONE
Ben Robinson added to his growing reputation as a golfer by scoring two holes-in-one, in one week over half term, at the Vale Golf Club. His achievement was rewarded with interviews with BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester and ITV News.

SATURDAY 2ND FEBRUARY
CROSS COUNTRY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008

This was our strongest team and it produced a County Champion for Bromsgrove Preparatory School in Rebecca Straw. Rebecca was running against a field of 97 including Year 9 girls. Rebecca was well supported by Lydia Trow 14th (Year 8), Harriet Jones 17th (Year 9) and Charlotte Barrow 53rd (Year 9). Rebecca is the first Preparatory School pupil to have won the County Championship. She becomes the first Preparatory School girl since Lauren Woodwiss to be selected for the county to compete at the All England Championships in March.

WEDNESDAY 6TH FEBRUARY
U12 A, B, C, D NETBALL V OAKHAM SCHOOL

Oakham is a new fixture for the Prep School so we were not sure what to expect.  We had a good afternoon of netball producing two wins and two losses.
 Results:
U12A   -          17–15
U12B   -          16–5
U12C   -          8–9
U12D   -          4–3

WEDNESDAY 30TH JANUARY

NETBALL V KINGS HIGH WARWICK
U13A & U12A

The U13A team played well, raising their game after the first quarter to beat a strong Kings High team; the final score being 24-13. The U12A fell behind after the first two quarters but fought hard to recover in the final quarters, unfortunately they left it too late despite playing some very good netball, the final score 10-6.
U13B
Although Bromsgrove worked hard throughout the match they could not prevent Kings dominating the circle. Although we came within one goal at half time Kings pulled away to win 20-12.
U12B
The U12 B netball team played with determination and skill, resulting in a clear win over a difficult side. The final score was 5-1.

U13C & U13D NETBALL V PACKWOOD HAUGH
The C team learned much  from this which will take them forward during the next few weeks. Lita Bennett was the player of the match. The D team played a tight game of end to end netball producing a close final score of 9-7, with promising netball being played.

U11 A, B, C NETBALL V WARWICK PREP
U11A lost 4-14, U11B lost 0-18, U11C lost 0-13. Despite a lot of movement on the court all of the teams were unable to translate this into goals.

BOYS HOCKEY V FOREMARKE HALL
1ST XI

The team produced their best performance of the season against an extremely talented team. Foremarke rate their 1st XI as their best ever and to lose to them by 1 -2 does not tell the whole story. After going behind to an early goal, it was a tremendous effort to pull back to 1-1 with a goal from William Cutler. Unfortunately, 2 minutes from the end, they scored a very lucky second goal. The boys were disappointed as they knew they had played really well and Foremarke’s coach was full of praise. The whole team deserved the man of the match award.

2ND XI
The 2nd XI can be very pleased with themselves for getting to half term unbeaten. Bromsgrove deservedly won this encounter 1-0 versus Foremarke Hall. Josh Jayaratnasingam scored our only goal at the beginning of the first half and we could have scored a few more from Ben Harmer or Oliver Muscutt (man of the match). Foremarke applied some dangerous pressure midway through the second half. Once more Monty Alexander pulled off a couple of good saves to record his and the teams second consecutive clean sheet.

3RD XI
We dominated play from the outset and spent most of the game in the attacking half. Newcomer Ivalyo Karov had a huge influence on the game as did James Cooper who scored both our goals from good crosses from the right. As ever, our back line of Charlie Gaffney, Sam Leather and Fraser Bales stayed strong and cool under pressure and our mid-field moved the ball out to the wings as they have been trained to do. It was without doubt our best performance so far – a great team effort and a well-deserved victory.

U11A & U11B
Both of the U11 boys' hockey teams travelled to Foremarke Hall and met very strong teams. The 'A' team lost 5 - 0 and the 'B' team lost 6 - 2. Nathan Bellamy, in the 'A' team goal, kept out many chances that the opposition had with some great saves but that was the only bright aspect in a dismal afternoon.

SATURDAY 26TH JANUARY
BOYS HOCKEY V COLSTONS  -
1st XI

In the game against Colstons, we started in rather lacklustre fashion however, in the second half we dominated play and performed far better. Despite all our pressure, we could only achieve near misses and Colstons hung on to win 1-0.

2nd XI
Without being at their best, the 2nd XI secured a 1–0 win thanks to a third goal in two games for Callum Phillips. Bromsgrove finished the stronger side, although goalkeeper Monty Alexander once more had to come to our rescue late on to thwart a goal bound effort by our hosts. George Westwood played particularly well in defence in what was his first full game for the team.

4th XI
The 4th team hockey continued with their winning streak and beat Colstons 4-1.  Ivaylo Karov scored two goals, Samuel McQuaid and Tom Von Malachowski both added to the total with a goal each.  However all members of the team played well and it is very encouraging to see how they have progressed over the term.

U13A, U13B, U12A & U12B GIRLS HOCKEY V SOLIHULL
Although Bromsgrove looked a little rusty they soon found form and the matches became rather a goal fest. Bromsgrove won all four matches, scoring over twenty goals, and proved more skilled and fitter than their opposition.

WEDNESDAY 23RD JANUARY

U10 NETBALL TOURNAMENT
After winning 4 out of 5 matches in the first round, the U10 team qualified for the semi-finals. In the semi- final versus Malvern College, the girls showed their best skills and raised their game against a strong side, winning the game 7- 3.
The final against Springfield was a very close match against a side we had already beaten in the first round. At half time the score was 3-3 and with a minute to go had crept up to 4-4. At the final whistle it was our victory 7-5.

HOCKEY V DEAN CLOSE
1st XI

Dean Close have always been one of our toughest opponents and this year they believe their 1st team is one of their best sides ever. Dean Close have won all their games by a margin of at least 6 goals this year so to lose 5-0 is not as bad as it sounds. Max McLoughlin was man of the match for some excellent work in defence, closely followed by Felix Ng and Fraser Mack.

2nd XI
Bromsgrove were two nil up at half time thanks to two goals from Callum Phillips. With only five minutes remaining, Dean Close scored from a short corner and drew level with a second goal in the last minute. Monty Alexander played amazingly well in goal on his debut, and pulled off a succession of saves. Jerome Legros also played consistently well as did captain Sam Coope in defence with William Hunt.

3rd XI
Once again, the thirds dominated the game, creating many chances but not quite managing to turn them into goal. On the stroke of half-time, with almost their first breakthrough, Dean Close scored and we were 1-0 down at half time. A determined effort in the second half brought an excellent goal from James Cooper who managed to convert an excellent cross from Sam Duberley. Another very good team effort, with notable performances from Sam Duberley, George Toft, Dale Roberts and Fraser Bales.

4th XI
The 4th team hockey had a hard game against Dean Close but eventually succeeded in winning 3 - 1.  Goals where scored by L. Turner, S. McQuaid and H. Thorley.  Dean Close had the opportunity to score on numerous occasions but our defence manned by C. Cooper and S. Stiles were too strong for them.  Notable contributions to the goals scored were by I. Karov, A. Gaylor and T. Von Malachowski.

U11 A/B VII
The A team boys created a number of chances in the first half but only managed to score once. Dean Close came back very strongly in the second half, yet they also only put one goal away. However, a 1-1 draw was a fair result and credit goes to all of the squad for playing so well.
The B team were not so fortunate in their game. They lost 6-0 to a strong Dean Close team.

U12 A/B & U13 A/B NETBALL V FOREMARKE HALL
The U13A won convincingly, playing some fantastic netball, the final score being 29-2. The U13B had a slightly harder challenge and had to work hard for their 7-5 win, again some excellent netball played and good team sprint shown.
The U12A have continued to improve and were rewarded with a 12-7 win in hard windy conditions.
The U12B work rate was outstanding and they deserved a win but unfortunately could not manage to seek a final goal to win the match, resulting in the final score being 5-5.

BOYS 1ST V11 HOCKEY INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT AT FOREMARKE HALL
We were in a very strong group, containing the two teams that eventually won through to the final, and we were unlucky to lose both games against Trent and Foremarke by just one goal. In our other game we won 2-1 against Kimbolton. This meant that we were put into the play-off for 5th and 6th place against last year’s winners, Old Buckenham Hall. This was our best performance of the day, winning a tough match 1-0. All the boys played well and should gain valuable experience from the day. Fraser Mack captained the side well and also was the top goal scorer with 3. The other goal was scored by Max McLoughlin.

U8, U9, U10, U11 SWIMMING V NEWCASTLE UNDER LYME
These were amazing results for Bromsgrove as we nearly won all races. There were three new school records and one equal record. Talia Mitchell, Rachel Weller, Niamh Donovan and Eleanor Childs set a new U8 girls 4x25m medley relay record. Talia broke her own school record in U8 girls 25m backstroke. Clare Hill equalled her own 25m butterfly record. Eleanor Kerr set a new school record in U11 girls 25m breaststroke.

WEDNESDAY 16TH JANUARY
U12 NETBALL TOURNAMENT

The girls played some fantastic netball at times but unfortunately they could not consistently maintain this standard. They came 3rd in their section after winning 1, drawing 1 and losing 2. The section was very close and there were not many points between the top three teams. They then played for 5th and 6th place where they played their best netball of the tournament and won comfortably resulting in finishing 5th overall. Well done to all the players especially Lilly Bolton and Hannah Trow who played consistently well.

HOCKEY V DRAGON
BOYS 1st XI

The game against Dragon was a classic of two completely different halves; a lack of confidence and determination causing us perform poorly at the start. Half-time came with the score 2-0 to the Dragon and we were lucky to only be 2 goals down!
Throughout the second half we were more competitive. We scored a good goal with some excellent play down the right, eventually tapped in by Callum Phillips, and had chances to score a second.

BOYS 2nd XI
Drew 1-1 The team were under a lot of pressure in the early exchanges and struggled to get the ball out of our own half. Dragon led 1-0 at half time. We played much better in the second half and created numerous chances. Zachary Morris brought us level with an excellent strike mid way through the second half. We nearly took the lead soon after with Captain Jacob Jayaratnasingam shaving the post with another excellent strike. With both teams going for the win, William Bedford-Russell on as a second half substitute, made a goal line clearance late on to secure a draw. Kit Thornton played very well throughout in defence.

BOYS 3rd XI
The boys played intelligent hockey showing a good standard of skill which bodes well for future fixtures. Victory could have gone to either side, if shots had found their mark. Dragon just sneaked a 1-0 win. Ben Harmer was outstanding and Monty Alexander in goal saved us many a time.

BOYS 4th XI
The 4th team hockey had an excellent start to the season with all players contributing positively to the game plan.  We had some excellent cracks at the Dragon’s goal but unfortunately to no avail.  In the end we drew 2 all - goals where scored by I. Karov and S. McQuaid.

NETBALL V CHELTENHAM JUNIOR COLLEGE
The U10 A and B teams won very convincingly with a 10 - 2 and 14 - 1 win respectively.
The U11 A and B teams both lost 9-19 and 3-7.
The U12 B and C's again won very easily 15-2 and 30-0.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
On Saturday our U-13 girls Cross Country team took part in the annual Worcestershire County AAA's Championships at Droitwich.  Amazingly the team won and according to the existing names on the cup, we are the first ever school in the county to have won this competition bearing in mind that you would normally expect a club team to win it - further proof of how strong our girls are this year at cross country.  Rebecca Straw won the race and had excellent back up from Lydia Trow 4th, Hannah Trow 11th, Alice Smith and Lauren Townsend both competed and ran for the team. Rebecca and Lydia will now be members of the county team, who will run at the inter-counties at Nottingham in March. A very special achievement indeed

YEAR 7 & 8 GIRLS SWIMMING V MONMOUTH SCHOOL – WEDNESDAY 9TH JANUARY
