About the Prep School

What is the school aiming to achieve with its pupils?

At the Prep School we very much follow the whole Bromsgrove School ethos and firmly believe in offering a broad, varied and balanced curriculum, where there are numerous opportunities for all of the children to discover where their particular talents lie. Creating these opportunities is at the core of what I feel we should be doing. As a result, the educational experience the children have at Bromsgrove Prep School reflects this approach. In practical terms, last year alone we put out 63 different school teams, put on 4 drama productions as well as numerous musical events, while the varied daily and weekend activities programme gives plenty of opportunities for the children to have a go and find out what they are good at.

This last point is important, as I firmly believe that every single child has a particular talent for something, or a number of things, and finding this something, is what we strive to do. I like to call it the key to their confidence, something from experience I know that every child needs to be able to develop and flourish.

What makes us distinctive from most other prep schools in the area?

We are proud to be one of the increasingly few midlands prep schools whose senior pupils transfer at the end of Year 8. It is in my opinion the very best time to move schools. The young adults who leave us at 13 are well rounded, confident and far better able to manage with life in a senior school environment, and because of the well established academic and pastoral links we have in place throughout Bromsgrove School, they also move on with no academic treading of water. The move at this point in time to the senior school enables them to continue to develop in every way. The extremely impressive academic results and extra curricular successes of the Senior School suggest that this established process is very effective.

Bromsgrove Prep School itself is a busy, buzzing and stimulating environment. It is a great place to go to school, and importantly from the staff perspective, also to work. It is without doubt a forwarding thinking and dynamic school, but also one which holds on to traditional values and expectations so important to get on in today’s changing and challenging world. We do expect a great deal from the children, we do challenge them to make the most of the talents they all have in them. You would not expect anything less from us!

If you like what you hear, do visit us and see the school in action. I would be very happy to show you around and tell you more about life at Bromsgrove Prep School. I am confident that you will not be disappointed!
